Controversy Surrounds Paola Rojas and Her Mezcal Launch

A new controversy has arisen regarding the host of 'De Pisa y Corre', Paola Rojas, who recently joined Imagen Televisión. Rojas announced through her social media the launch of a mezcal called 'Mixes by Pao', but after the criticism and statements from the governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara Cruz, the journalist published a video denying that the brand belonged to her and shared a press release from the mezcal where she was distanced from the project.

The Government of Oaxaca has announced that it is seeking legal advice to proceed against Paola Rojas for alleged cultural appropriation. The 'Federal Law for the Protection of the Cultural Heritage of Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Peoples and Communities', approved in 2021, provides for up to 8 years in prison and a fine of 1.6 million pesos for cultural appropriation. The rule, known as the 'Harp Law', was promoted by then-Morena senators Susana Harp and Ricardo Monreal.

After the scandal, Paola Rojas deleted her Instagram account where she had announced the mezcal, as well as the product's website. Although screenshots of both pages are circulating on social media. In the coming days, it will be official whether legal action will be taken against the communicator.
